Program Description
Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour training program that teaches participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health condition, or experiencing a mental health crisis. This class is appropriate for adults aged 18+ years, who want to learn more about mental health issues.
By the end of the course, you will be able to identify symptoms of a mental health challenge, understand common mental illnesses within the United States, use the ALGEE action plan to navigate conversations with someone who is struggling, and more.
Upon completion, participants will receive their certificates digitally.
Topics covered:
Panic attacks
Suicidal thoughts or behaviors
Nonsuicidal self-injury
Acute psychosis (e.g., hallucinations or delusions)
Overdose or withdrawal from alcohol or drug use
Reaction to a traumatic event
The opportunity to practice — through role plays, scenarios, and activities — makes it easier to apply these skills in a real-life situation.
The course will be delivered by a certified instructor, and learning will comprise group discussions, scenario-based activities, shared lived experiences, PowerPoint presentations, and videos.
Additionally, participants can earn 6.5 to 7.5 credits of professional development hours (CEUs or CPDUs).
